Richard Geiss prepares for flood protection
A new flood protection trailer and a donation of 60,000 euros to the regional fire brigades
Offingen (jm.)
After the catastrophic flooding last summer, Richard Geiss GmbH based in Offingen (Bavaria) has invested a vast amount in flood protection systems. This includes a new custom-built flood protection trailer with a pump capacity which corresponds to the capacity of three to four fire brigade appliances. The trailer is also available to fire brigades from the region. Richard Geiss GmbH invested around 100,000 euros in the custom-built design. As part of the flood protection system, the solvents specialist has also established a large appliance room measuring 100 square metres on its company premises. Richard Geiss GmbH is not merely investing in its own flood protection, however; but also that of the region: the company has donated a total of 60,000 euros to regional fire brigades.
“We are located directly on the river Mindel and, if we hadn’t had the large and powerful pump of the Kempten fire brigade in use on our premises last summer, we would have been completely flooded. Straight away, it was clear to me that we need to be better prepared here in the future,” explains Bastian Geiss, Managing Director of Richard Geiss GmbH. In the end, it was not just an extensive flood protection concept that was ordered; it was a custom-built flood protection trailer.
4x pump capacity in one trailer
Mobile, powerful and self-sufficient in terms of energy: this is the new flood protection trailer at Richard Geiss GmbH, which was produced by the two companies Spechtenhauser (Waal) and Fischer (Dinkelscherben). The trailer is equipped with six high-power pumps with a total output of 8,600 litres per minute. “This is the same pump capacity as three to four fire brigade appliances,” highlights Bastian Geiss. The pumps are two flood protection pumps of type Spechtenhauser Chiemsee A, each with a pump capacity of 2,500 litres per minute, two flood protection pumps of type Spechtenhauser Mini-Chiemsee B, each with a pump capacity of 1,500 litres per minute, and two wastewater pumps of type Spechtenhauser X 300 with a pump capacity of 300 litres per minute.
Two emergency power generators guarantee the power supply to all six pumps – even if the regular grid goes down, which is often the case during floods. The equipment is rounded off with LED lighting systems and accessories for immediate use.
Flood protection trailer for regional fire brigades
Good for Offingen and the region: Richard Geiss GmbH has made its custom-made and high-performance flood protection trailer available to regional fire brigades as well. When the need arises, they can request the trailer easily and officially via the control centre.
Appliance room on company premises
The Richard Geiss GmbH flood concept also includes the construction of an appliance room on the premises in Offingen. With a total area measuring around 100 square metres, the plan is for this room to accommodate the new flood protection trailer as well as the existing fire-extinguishing trailers.
Donations of 60,000 euros to regional fire brigades
“We primarily have the regional fire brigades to thank for the fact that we got through the flood last summer relatively unscathed. They worked tirelessly, day and night, with unimaginable efforts, and made sure that our business didn’t end up down the river, in the truest sense of the word,” says Bastian Geiss, Managing Director of Richard Geiss GmbH.
The company has donated a total of 60,000 euros to volunteer fire brigades in the region. These include the fire stations in Offingen, Rettenbach, Schnuttenbach, Dürrlauingen, Mindelaltheim, Erlangen and Kempten.
