Solvent
CHLORINATED HYDROCARBONS (CHC)
PERCHLOROETHYLENE
Cleaning effect:
- Contamination types: very good dissolving capacity for non-polar contaminants such as oils and greases
- Component geometries: very good cleaning of complex parts such as parts with blind holes or small threaded holes and bulk material thanks to very low surface tension and high capillary effect
- Compatibility with metals/materials: all metals, provided that the stabilisation of the solvent is adjusted alkaline accordingly, plastics conditionally
- Fast evaporation: good drying behaviour, therefore short cycle times
- Recommended use: when using oils containing chlorine and sulphur and for oils with low boiling temperatures
- Restrictions: less suitable for polar impurities
Process Efficiency:
- Safety: non-flammable
- Very good distillation capability: strong solvent even with very high oil input
- Easy solvent monitoring and maintenance
- Regulation: Limit value transmitter (gas photometer) required for monitoring of the solvent concentration in the working chamber
- Annual inspections: inspections of the system and the limit value transmitter (gas photometer) by an expert is necessary.
Cost Aspect:
- Energy efficient: solvents with very low boiling point, low temperature and vacuum in the system
- Long service life: very good distillation capability
- Regulation: requirement for a solvent balance (in the case of the use of 1 tonne or more per year - Section 31 German Federal Immission Control Ordinance [BlmSchV]-)
Sustainability and Environment:
- Very high distillation capability: sustainable solvent with CO2-savings of up to 90 %
- Regulation: no foreseeable prohibition
- Environmental risk: hazardous to groundwater; WHC 3 (highly hazardous to water)
- Classification as dangerous goods according to transport law
Methylene chloride:
- for paint stripping processes
- other areas of application in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry
MODIFIED ALCOHOLS &
MODIFIED ALCOHOL-HYDROCARBON MIXTURES
Cleaning effect:
- Contamination types: very good dissolving capacity for polar contaminants (such as salts, dust, metal abrasion) and non-polar contaminants (such as greases, oils, waxes)
- Component geometries: good cleaning of complex parts such as parts with blind holes or small threaded holes and bulk material thanks to very low surface tension and high capillary effect
- Compatibility with metals/materials: all metals, provided the solvent is within the usual working range (pH range 9.5-4), plastics conditionally
- Recommended use: highly recommended for polar contaminants such as water-based coolants or emulsions as well as for cleaning of oils (non-polar)
- Restrictions: not very suitable for cleaning chlorinated and sulphurised oils
- Modified alcohol-hydrocarbon mixtures: particularly suitable for use in hybrid cleaning systems

- Good distillation capability: strong solvent even with high oil input

- Virtually no solvent maintenance required
